Lora Tamayo Visit!

Last Friday, we took some of our Spring 2017 students to visit the C.E.I.P. Lora Tamayo Primary School!

Last Friday, we took some of our Spring 2017 students to visit the C.E.I.P. Lora Tamayo Primary School! This is part of the service learning project we are organizing this semester for our students at the local Sevillian school located in the outskirts of Seville.
Our students got to engage with kids from the school, organising fun activities and games for them in English!
We plan to make these visits to Lora Tamayo a permanent part of our Study Abroad program, as we feel it provides our students with a direct immersion into the Spanish language and culture. It is an opportunity for them to practice their Spanish speaking skills, as well as a chance to improve upon their leadership and teamwork skills.
The students’ visits to Lora Tamayo are structured in a way similar to that of the Faculty Led programs we have organised in the past for Carleton College.
Any faculty interested in our program can get in contact with the head of Faculty Led Programs at SAIIE, Sean Chipres, at seanrc@saiie.com

Located in the heart of Southern Spain, the Andalusian capital of Seville offers you more than any other Spanish city. Forget Madrid or Barcelona, Seville ticks all the boxes, making it the number one study abroad location.
Home to monuments like Plaza de España and Cathedral, Seville is a beautiful city everywhere you turn.
Want an all-year round warm climate or should I say sun-kissed glow? Seville also offers you that!
What about flamenco? Bull-fighting? Seville is bursting with fun Spanish traditions for you to try out and enjoy.
With our study abroad program, you get to call this idyllic city your home and have the experience of a lifetime. Seville is as Spanish as you will get, and with such an opportunity, you will experience Spain in a way as never before.

Our Co-Curricular is better than yours!

Do you want a study abroad program that goes above and beyond? SAIIE has that covered.

Do you want a study abroad program that goes above and beyond? SAIIE has that covered.
Studying abroad is one thing, but co-curricular activities is another. SAIIE promises all its students a program that will immerse them into the city of Seville, as well as its cultures, customs and Sevillian dialect. SAIIE organises co-curricular activities for its students, to do just this.
Day trips to places like Ronda, Córdoba and Cádiz, weekend trips to Madrid, Morocco and Granada… SAIIE lets you globetrote like no other study abroad program.
We also offer group intercambio sessions now, where students can gain total immersion into the Spanish language.
SAIIE hosts a variety of athletic programs, for those who want to continue their home sports when they come to study abroad with us in Seville. We offer programs in the following sports: soccer, swimming, basketball, volleyball, rowing, water polo and rugby.
Volunteering is another co-curricular activity SAIIE offers. We offer students the chance to volunteer at Padres Blancos, a very well-reputed Catholic school, where our students have in the past helped assist in English classes, looked after the children, practiced sports with them, etc.
Students participating in the SAIIE program also have the option of participating in an internship at a local Spanish company.

Another Testimonial from Class of Fall 2016!

We asked our Fall 2016 alum, Steven Boutcher from UW-White Water, what he thought about his time in Seville and his experience with SAIIE. He had a lot to say!

We asked our Fall 2016 alum, Steven Boutcher from UW-White Water, what he thought about his time in Seville and his experience with SAIIE. He had a lot to say!
Underneath is Steven’s testimonial:
My time at SAIIE was an unforgettable experience. As a study abroad program, the opportunities to connect with people and learn were innumerable, and I ended up having a very multi-faceted experience. Within the academics, I came to know a number of colorful and talented professors of Spanish language, culture, and art. By the end of the semester, my knowledge base had broadened considerably, and I had made friends and colleagues out of the professors I studied under. For the language enthusiasts reading this, I learned more about the subjunctive tense in Spanish than I had ever learned in the United States. In terms of housing, the host mother I was set up with was very sweet and accommodating. She only spoke Spanish, so I had plenty of practice. She also made some of the most delicious Spanish food I tasted while in Spain. The living situation was comfortable and I felt at home. If I had to name one thing that I loved about this experience, it would have to be the freedom. The academics are designed to give students plenty of time to explore the city of Sevilla while still learning plenty about the city’s culture and language. I leveraged this freedom to engage in various activities and communities. I discovered the parkour/freerunning community in Sevilla and took classes from the coaches at Universo Parkour. I met some students on a European grant program called Erasmus and became great friends with some of them. I attended some language exchanges at a local bar where we helped each other learning English and Spanish over drinks and food. That’s just a taste of what’s possible in this fantastic program because of the free time we are able to enjoy as students of SAIIE. Overall, I recommend this program to anyone looking to improve their Spanish or learn about Spanish culture, and anyone with a thirst for adventure and new experiences.
We always love to hear positive feedback from our students, thank you for such a wonderful testimonial Steven!

Kaylee Beevers Talks SAIIE!

With our Fall 2016 students having now finished their semester, we asked one student in particular what her experience in Seville meant to her. Kaylee Beevers told us a little bit about her time with us at SAIIE, especially telling us what she thought about the academics and housing that SAIIE provided her with.

‘When people ask me what made my time in Sevilla so memorable and enjoyable, I always respond with “my teacher and host mom.” SAIIE only hires the best staff to improve the academics and travel experience for its students. I took Spanish Immersion courses for a semester. Everyday classes would be taught in Spanish, which made me nervous at first. My teacher, Lole, was so amazing and did such a great job of explaining the lessons that I went from knowing barely any Spanish to being able to understand and hold conversations with Spanish people on the street. They offer tutoring, intercambios, trips around the city and just by being in class, you still fell like you’re receiving one on one help. I learned 10x more Spanish at SAIIE then I ever have back in the US. For my housing, Fina, my host mom, took me in as my own. She was an amazing cook and made us tradition Spanish food! It was so nice not having to spend money during week on groceries or having to worry about making my own meals. If we were gone for a meal, she’d always pack us a lunch or dinner. She took care of my roommate and I when we became sick. It felt like she truly cared about us. She did everything from cleaning our bathroom to making us food to making our bed! Fina was a great way to practice my Spanish. She sat and talked with us every night and we’d watch Spanish television. Needless to say, once I left Spain, they were my hardest goodbyes. Without Fina, Lole and SAIIE, Sevilla would just be another trip, but they made it an unforgettable journey.’
We always love to hear positive feedback from our students, especially when they truly have enjoyed the program and all that we offer. We strive to show our students the best possible study abroad experience in Seville, and class of Fall 2016, we hope you enjoyed your time here as much as we enjoyed meeting you!
Thank you Kaylee for such a wonderful testimonial!
