Our student women’s soccer team competes at a competitive club level where no player receives payment or any form of compensation.
✔ The Spanish club is amateur
- no salaries
- no player contracts
- no agents
- no professional league status
✔ You are not paid
- no match fees beyond basic expenses
- no “semi-pro” compensation
✔ The competition is amateur/regional
- local/provincial amateur leagues
- non-professional federated competitions
Because the club is strictly amateur, this generally supports maintaining NCAA eligibility. However:
-
NCAA rules can be complex, and individual cases may vary.
-
We still recommend that students planning to compete in NCAA college sports consult with their school’s athletic compliance office or an NCAA eligibility advisor for personalized guidance.
The fields you will be training on are made of artificial turf.
You will need soccer shoes suitable for artificial turf grounds.
Trainings will last for about 1hr and 30 min.
Trainings will be held in the evenings. Generally practices take place from 8:00pm – 9:30pm
Teams train 3 times per week.
Are the trainings held in Spanish?
Yes. You will be training with Spaniards on a Spanish team with Spanish coaches. This is an important aspect of the cultural immersion part of the program; through the soccer program you will be surrounded in a constant Spanish speaking environment and this will give you a great opportunity to improve your Spanish.
On the womens team they can be a maximum of 5 players.
Depending of your age you will join the “Juveniles” team which is 16-18 years old or the senior team which most players range between 18 and 23 years old.
All training grounds are no further than a 30-45 min bus or metro ride or in some cases a 20-40 minute walk.
Yes, we will organize an activity to go watch a professional “La Liga” soccer match throughout the semester.
Yes. Its the Spanish Head Coach desicion but if he agrees it is up to the student to join or not the team.

“Playing soccer in Spain was so much fun! The girls on the team were great and really friendly. Not only I manage to practice my Spanish with them but they took me out to places around the city which I don’t think many foreing students generally go to. If you play soccer back home, and want to study abroad I would definitely recommend to you to take part of this opportunity that SAIIE offers
