Spanish American Institute of International Education - SAIIE - Study Abroad

 

The Spanish-American Institute of International Education (SAIIE) was founded in 1984 in Seville, Spain and has been hosting the study abroad program for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (UW-Platteville) ever since. SAIIE offers academic programs through the University of Seville and the EUSA private university center. Students from all over the United States have ventured to Seville, Spain to take part in our study abroad programs (please see here for a list of participating universities).

 

Academic Programs

All programs with Universidad de Sevilla and EUSA are run in partnership with SAIIE. Classes will take place at both SAIIE and the relevant partner institution.

SPRING AN FALL PROGRAMS

SAIIE - Universidad de Sevilla: International Studies and Contemporary Hispanic Studies

This program is designed for students that have a basic level or lower intermediate level of Spanish, so there are no language prerequisites required. The program has been put together to offer American students their first experience with Spanish culture and its historical, social and economic context. 
Language Requirement: No prior knowledge of Spanish required.

SAIIE - Universidad de Sevilla: Liberal Arts, Business and Spanish Language and Culture

This program is designed for students that have a minimum high intermediate level of Spanish, and for those who want to combine their academic experience with the total cultural immersion through the extra curricular activities offered by our program. 
Language Requirement: 
5 semester college – level Spanish.

SAIIE - Universidad de Sevilla: Advanced Spanish Language and Culture

This program is designed for students that have an advanced level of Spanish and for those who want the challenge to perfect their knowledge of the language and the distinct features of Spanish culture. 
Language Requirement: 6 semester college – level Spanish.

SAIIE - EUSA: Communication, New Media, Journalism and Tourism

This program offers students the opportunity to experience international education in two different environments: the SAIIE campus and EUSA (la Escuela Universitaria de Sevilla). At EUSA, the students will be able to share classes with both Spanish students and students from other European countries, which will help them to achieve an even deeper level of cultural immersion.

Students at the EUSA Campus will take courses in the following areas:

- Audiovisual Communications: History, Technology, Writing, Culture, Advertising, Publications, Scripting, Film-Making, Spanish for Communications, Media Studies, Art, Cinema, and Business

- Journalism: Creative Writing, Art, Media, Law, Political Science, History, Language, New Reporting, Advertising, Public Relations, Cyber Culture

- Publication: Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, Media Studies, Photography, Sociology, Art, Design, Geography, and Ethics

- Tourism: Operations, Management, Business, Statistics, Law, German for Tourism, French for Tourism, Human Resources, Marketing, Political Science, and Computer Science.

Language Requirement: 6 semester college – level Spanish.

The Intensive Language Track is designed for students on the beginning and intermediate levels who want to focus solely on the acquisition of Spanish. 

Language Requirement: 2-3 years of high-school Spanish or 1 semester college – level Spanish.

SUMMER PROGRAM

SAIIE: Spanish Language, Business and Liberal Arts

This program is designed for all students, independent of their specialties and their level of Spanish. We put a particular emphasis on courses related to Spanish history and culture in its various forms with the aim of helping to improve the students´ level of Spanish, as well as facilitating their cultural immersion and knowledge about a city as multicultural and mixed as Seville.  
Language Requirement: No prior knowledge of Spanish required.

SAIIE Athletics

SAIIE offers student-athletes the chance to study abroad in Seville, Spain during their off-season to earn academic credit while still being able to continue training at a competitive level in their favorite sport.

In 2012 SAIIE launched Spain’s first ever athletic-study abroad program for male and female athletes (the Soccer program), combining an academic study abroad experience with a high-level athletic training program. The Soccer program has experienced great levels of success since then, with college students from all over the United States coming to study with us. Due to the success of the Soccer Program, we decided to expand our Sports Programs, so that we now offer Soccer, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, Rowing, Water Polo, and Rugby Programs.
